BREAKING NEWS | WIS engineer "camps out" atop Mt Wilson during road closures and storm activity

January 31, 2010- Mt. Wilson, CA

WIS has staffed Mt Wilson for over a year as part of a multi-year, multi-station group maintenance contract. This contract between WIS, KDOC, KOCE, KJLA, and KXLA covers site maintenance, emergency support, transmitter monitoring/maintenance, generator and power monitoring/maintenance, and general house keeping. Additionally each station enjoys discounted tower and technical service pricing and emergency support priority as part of the contract.

With access to Mt Wilson being a major problem after the fires and subsequent storms, WIS prepared the site and staff for overnight stays on the Mtn as part of our ongoing service commitment to our clients. As two major storms headed towards Los Angeles, WIS rushed to gather supplies and was able to get our engineer up on the Mtn just prior to the County shutting down all road access to the site in late January. Over 12 days of intense storm activity involving power outages, storm damages, leaks, transmitter problems, communication issues, and many other small maintenance tasks, WIS was there to keep content on air.

After 12 days on the Mtn with clearing weather and all systems operating normally, WIS sent in our contracted helicopter to bring our engineer down the Mtn for some much needed rest.

With many other clients on the Mtn, WIS was able to provide emergency support to these other stations in need during our stay, saving valuable time and tremendous expense for these valued clients. In total, WIS provided support to KJLA, KXLA, KAZA, KOCE, KDOC, CBS Radio, KUSC, KCBS, KCAL, KSCI, KBEH and ATC.

WIS management, office staff, engineers, tower crews and technicians are always available to support and protect our clients infrastructure, it’s our job and what we enjoy doing.

At times the snowfall was extremely heavy, this photo is
