The day after Christmas Black and Veatch, at&t, and WIS discuss the possibility of deploying T1 services via microwave to a new cell site in Bakersfield that must be turned up before the end of the year. Initial details and research revealed this would be no simple task as the new site was remote and nearby sites were limited as far as T1 donor availability. It was determined through paper engineering that we had one option, which included a 2 hop system that would tie into the existing backbone infrastructure…..if, LOS, Fresnel, equipment placement, and access were acceptable. WIS crews deployed that afternoon to confirm this detail while our microwave engineer ran preliminary designs and confirmed equipment availability. Luckily, WIS stocks various unlicensed radios, antennas, coax, mounts, and other microwave system components, so having the equipment to meet design requirements is rarely an issue for us. Once the site survey data was relayed back to the office, final engineering was prepared and another crew was immediately dispatched with all radios, DC power materials, mounts, antennas, coax, and ancillary materials needed to get this system installed, tested and integrated by the deadline. As usual, WIS crews stepped up and met the challenge, turning up the new system with 2 days to spare on December 29, 2009.

WIS provides turnkey unlicensed system deployment, including equipment rental/leasing on a wide range of unlicensed microwave equipment. Our service includes surveys, donor location selection, path engineering, telco coordination and ordering, traffic routing/grooming, LL consent, tower analysis, lease negotiations, permits, installation, testing, maintenance support, warranties on all WIS furnished equipment, de-installation, on call support and emergency response. Additionally, WIS can use the initial site survey data to design a licensed solution, coordinate and license the path, a repeat the turnkey process for the license upgrade if needed.

New entry port and ground kits on the LMR400 if cabling routed to the Proxim ODU’s mounted on the tower behind the antennas	“TEMP” installs completed by WIS crews ALWAYS get proper support hardware, grounding, weather proofing, etc. In fact, no can tell that this is a “TEMP” install, we only call it that because it will be de-installed once we upgrade the system to a licensed microwave link.
