BREAKING NEWS | Raycom Media contracts with WIS to install new tower retrofit, DTV, microwave, and ENG systems in Hawaii

Raycom Media purchased long time WIS customer KGMB in mid 2009 joining two other Raycom owned stations, KFVE and KHNL. Having worked with all 3 stations for many years, WIS was brought in to upgrade microwave systems, re-direct traffic, relocate DTV systems, install new ENG systems, and complete the remaining 2 GHz BAS effort while we were at it. But none of this could be completed until the main transmission tower was completely upgraded as engineering and inspections came back reporting massive corrosion and rust with some tower members crumbling at our fingertips. Of course timelines still had to be met and safety would not be compromised. WIS crews went work and safely met the aggressive deadlines on this very large project. WIS crews thrive under these conditions and take great pride in making the seemingly impossible not only possible, but they make it look easy.

 All microwave stiff-arms properly installed and secured on the 3 links (KHNL, KGMB, and KHET). Over 60% of the tower members were changed out on this tower project by WIS crews |
 Clean and secure waveguide routing for the new KHNL microwave system installed by WIS |
 New matching section for the Dielectric DTV antenna system. WIS crews swept and tuned this system, actually not much tuning was needed at all as the system looked great during proofing |
 New EW63 waveguide and 3” heliax routed inside the tower |
 Raycom chose MRC microwave equipment for their new digital STL link |
 New steel and hardware went up on nearly every tower section, even in the rain |
 LOS to the studio shoots directly over Pearl Harbor |
 No one on the island recognizes this tower anymore………its cleaner and stronger than ever before |
