BREAKING NEWS | WIS conducts ComTRAIN Certified Tower Safety and Rescue Course
WIS staff prepares for a day of tower climbing and rescue training.
October 6, 2008
In an ongoing effort to provide clients with the most highly trained, safety conscious and certified employees in the business, Wireless Infrastructure Services conducted another ComTRAIN Certified Tower Safety and Rescue Course. The course, taught by ComTRAIN Certified Instructor and WIS Field Supervisor Chris Young, was conducted over a two-day period that included classroom instruction, hands-on equipment demonstrations, a written exam and a full day of tower climbing and rescue training on site. When asked why this training was important for his co-workers Chris stated, “Safety is everyone’s responsibility. It is important that everyone understands and follows safety standards. When you work in such harsh environments, it feels good to know if something were to happen that the guys with you have your back and will be able and willing to help.”
Each participant in the class was trained in and required to demonstrate the proper way to inspect, use, care for, and store all climbing gear and rigging equipment. In addition, all trainees were given hands-on training and experience on a tower which involved each trainee taking his turn at being the “Hero” and the “Victim” to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of proper tower rescue procedures in the event of an accident requiring the rescue of a fellow climber. “The entire training was a great experience. It brought a heightened awareness of the perils of the job and importance of doing our job safely – simulating the rescue of my co-workers made me realize that when we’re up on the tower, we are each other’s life lines and it’s a good feeling to know that we are all trained and qualified to successfully bring each other down to safety if needed.”, stated student Phillip Musso.
Wireless Infrastructure Services would like to thank Field Supervisor Giovanni Cardona and Crew Lead Kevin Franklin, who assisted the instructor during the climbing and rescue exercises; as well as WIS Safety Manager Brian Donahue who kept a watchful eye on all of the day’s activities. Brian stated, “The business we are in is very dangerous and we can never let our guard down when it comes to safety. It is our continuing goal to ensure that each employee has the necessary training to perform their tasks successfully and safely”, when asked why Wireless Infrastructure Services is so committed to safety. Wireless Infrastructure Services would also like to thank Price Troncone for the use of one of their towers and to congratulate all of those individuals that took the time to prepare and study to complete this certification.
