Microwave/RF Technicians (Leads, Supervisors, Managers)
The RF Technician is responsible for the testing, installation, integration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of microwave radio systems. This may also include broadcast transmission systems, ENG systems, DC power systems, and other related auxiliary equipment. The RF Technician must be able to provide direction to crews as needed or perform duties independently to complete projects timely and per SOW. In addition, the Lead RF Technician is responsible for completing required closeout/install/turn up documentation per company and client requirements. The RF Technician works closely with the RF Technical Services Manager.
Essential Functions
- Analyze RF and microwave performance for antenna/source/transmission line and RF systems
- Investigate electronic system RF/microwave susceptibilities to frequency, modulation, and aspect angle
- Troubleshoot, and evaluate data related to RF/microwave systems
- Install, configure, integrate and test ENG equipment
- Prepare install reports, troubleshooting documentation and turn up documentation
- Prepare / develop path engineering
- Prepare BOM's, schematics, rack layout, or system flow chart diagrams
- Install cable ladders / cable trays
- Cross connect circuits on DSX panels
- Lead crews and projects to ensure the quality and timely completion per SOW
- Perform RF/microwave related tests utilizing a full array of RF microwave laboratory equipment
- Read schematics and various components
- Complete work assignments as directed by Supervisors/Managers and accurately report findings to aid in decision-making and/or problem solving
- Develop a working knowledge of industry and Company standards as well as client requirements and assist in completing updates, reports and site documentation accordingly
- Perform all duties and responsibilities detailed in all applicable Company policies, procedures and work flowcharts

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Certification with Alcatel, Harris, NEC microwave radios
- Experience with "hot cuts" in a high traffic/high risk environment
- Possess and maintain a working knowledge / understanding of:
- Test equipment including spectrum analyzers, RF power meters, BER testers, frequency counters, network analyzers, and RF line sweep equipment
- Telco and interconnect systems
- Digital data transmission
- Standard hand tools, general assembly techniques, and blueprint interpretation
- Skilled in wire-wrapping
- Experience in IP networking
- Experience preparing link budget / microwave link path calculation
- Experience in the frequency ranges from 2-23 GHz
- Certified and/or proven experience installing, testing, troubleshooting, and upgrading:
- Microwave radios, particularly: Harris Constellation, Harris TRuepoint, Alcatel MDR8000, Alcatel 9500, NEC NLite
- ENG systems particularly: NuComm, BMS, and Troll
- Experience with television, broadcast, and ENG systems, satellite, camera, modems, encoder, HD/NTSC, DC power -48V, +24V battery backup / UPS systems, BTS equipment
- Experience and comfortable working around DC and AC power (110VAC, 220VAC)
- Ability to understand and carry out both verbal and written instruction
- Ability to work independently with minimal to no supervision
- Minimum 1 year of related work required
- Must be computer literate and proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and various other computer software
- Attention to detail, problem solving, time management and strong organizational and multi-tasking skills required
- Tower-climbing experience preferred
Typical Working Conditions
99% of work is performed outside on job sites with exposure to hazardous conditions and adverse conditions (e.g. working heights of 500 ft. plus, inclement weather, remote sites, etc.). May be required to work irregular, late, or long hours and drive/travel long distances. Occasional overnight travel may also be required.
Equipment Used
Hand and power tools, test equipment (cathead, wiltron, etc.), ladders, etc.
Upon certification any or all of the following may be utilized: climbing, rigging, bucket truck, manlift, forklift.
Essential Physical Tasks
Position requires dexterity, good vision, and involves demanding physical activity and exertion required for rigging, tower climbing, carrying various tools, equipment and materials up to 75 pounds and performing other construction duties.
